Bilingual Baby

Japanese Hiragana Blocks
Elemental Blocks
These blocks from Uncle Goose by Lindenwood come in several different languages (and coming soon in the elements). I always wanted to start early in teaching my kids a second language (or third, or fourth...). Language acquisition is much easier at a young age. And if Doc is going to be a scientist, he better start memorizing the periodic table.

M+G=D

He looks more like G everyday.

He's a roller

He's been rolling to his right for a couple of weeks (me being on the right side of the bed may have provided some motivation). He sees things now and rolls to where he can get a good view then does the mermaid (or rather the merman) on his belly to watch it. When he gets tired of that he stretches out flat and pushes with his legs like he's going to crawl. He's talking to the fan here until he sees the camera and rolls to start talking to me. It gets really frustrating for him because he wants to move so bad and put everything in sight into his mouth.
We're still trying cereal every week but he's not ready quite yet. He's wearing 6-12 month clothes (18-24 if it's slim fit) and size 4 Pampers (bigger than cousin Bell). This is 16 weeks, his four month birthday is coming up quick.

We might have a talker in the family

The jumpy jump and apple teether

Maribel is at the top of the weight limit but she really likes the Johnny Jump-up. Having Maddy and Baby Bell here has been wonderful and we hate to see them go. I bet mom will suggest staying another week at least three more times before they fly out on Wednesday. Baby Doc is going to miss his cousin.
He's not really teething yet but puts everything in his mouth and he can finally fit his hand around the apple. I'd like to get a vibrating teether before he actually starts growing chompers.
We try cereal every week but he hasn't quite gotten the concept of swallowing yet. He stares longingly at food, though, and watches us eat like he's jealous. He enjoys sucking on fruits and vegetables. Cucumber slices seem to be one of his favorites (no confused look after his first taste).

Classic

I remember playing with one of these each time we visited the doctor's office. Even when I was quite a bit older I still enjoyed a good bead maze. Original roller coaster bead maze from One Step Ahead.

Natural aggression

When Doc gets hungry and sometimes when we're playing he gets a wild look on his face and starts punching and pinching. He opens his eyes and his mouth wide and lunges for whatever he wants his mouth around. If he doesn't get the attention he wants, he's started screaming (not a playful baby scream but a jungle monkey holler) and then he'll laugh like he knows that he can get whatever he wants. I don't think 3 month old babies are supposed to know how to manipulate like that.
Alternatively, he is also very good at the snuggly baby part and really prefers things calm and peaceful. If he's not in the mood, he can get easily stressed out if he has too much direct stimulation. When there are new things around he gets very focused so too many new things wear him out pretty quickly.

Thank you everyone for all of the happy birthday wishes!

Put that donkey boy in my mouth

Doc and G watched TV the other day while I made dinner. Sometimes he gets mad if he can't sit up to look around. He looks like such a big kid these days.

Stuffed friends of the custom hand knit variety

Adrian brought Pogue for Doc the week after he was born. Now that he's stronger and has better muscle control I've been giving him bigger toys to play with. He was intrigued when he saw Pogo and immediately wanted to hold him and eat his face. Then he tried to pull his pants off.

The white ninja strikes again

Baby in a suitcase

We tried cereal Monday morning. At first he was just interested in eating his bib. You can see in his eyes lately that he wants to eat. He watches every bite you take. I've been letting him taste fruit to try it out. He gets the usual "what the heck is this?" face then relaxes and keeps licking. Even when I drink from a glass he wants to know what's inside. He pushed most of the cereal back out of his mouth so we'll try again in a few days.

Doc and Papa had a good pre-dinner conversation on Sunday. Afterwards we went out to pick plums and he really enjoyed being in the trees. It was nice and cool with a slight breeze; very calming for his advanced baby senses. He really enjoys visiting the nursery, too (the plant nursery). Kent's has a bamboo enclosure that had him mesmerized.
